Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.
Helping girls develop leadership skills... Teaching them how to keep themselves and their bodies safe... Showing them how to think critically about the images they see of girls in the world around them... Inspiring girls to flourish...
There are roughly 66,000 girls between the ages of 9 and 18 living in Westchester County. Girls Inc. is here in Westchester to support and inspire these girls, to change their lives, and to change the future.
In addition to providing direct programs to girls, we provide resources for parents and educators;inform policymakers about girls’ issues; educate the media and the public about critical challenges facing girls; and teach the girls in our programs how to use their knowledge and strength to promote positive change for themselves and their communities.
Since 2008, Girls Inc. Westchester has worked with more than 1,500 girls. Girls like the 8 year old Ardsley girl who was overheard at a soccer practice saying she didn’t want to wear a pinny because "it will make me look fat.” Or the 11 year old girl in our violence prevention program who, when told to think about a trusted adult she could turn to if something bad happened, asked, “what if there isn’t anybody you can trust?”
Because too many girls still get the message that they can't -- and lack the opportunities to even try -- we are here to tell them that the can... and they will.
