Power of the Purse
On Thursday October 25th at LIFE in Ardsley, NY, Girls Inc. of Westchester County held Power of the Purse 2012. Our second annual gala was a great success, featuring some of Westchester's most prominent women and investing in Westchester's most promising girls. It was an evening that celebrated girl power. Our fabulous Purse-o-nalities and designers were accompanied by the members of our first ever Girls Inc. Leadership Council, all of whom brilliantly illustrated our Strong, Smart and Bold mantra.
Power of the Purse is a benefit event that recognizes some of Westchester’s most successful women; celebrates the next generation of up and coming female leaders; and calls upon the Westchester community at large to support Girls Inc. programs that give Westchester girls the skills they need to grow up healthy, educated, and independent and to realize their dreams.
Not your typical rubber-chicken fundraiser, Power of the Purse has as its centerpiece a runway show and live auction of handbags designed especially for the event in honor of selected local female leaders. The exciting show celebrates the achievements of these strong, inspiring honorees, and gives Girls Inc. girls a platform to share their dreams for their own futures. The event underscores the importance of investing in Girls Inc. programs that educate, inspire, and support the next generation of Westchester women leaders.
Power of the Purse 2012 recognized nine notable Westchester “purse-o-nalities” from the worlds of fashion, politics, entertainment, business, art, and more. Black Enterprise journalist Caroline Clarke served as the emcee for the evening. WNBC co-anchor of Today in New York Darlene Rodriguez, and actress LaChanze Fordjour are among those who slung the bags over their shoulders to raise money for Westchester’s girls. The evening also featured exclusive shopping boutiques, a raffle of fine wines, and a silent auction of one-of-a-kind experiences, from personal tours to selected vacations.
