Changing Minds
In addition to offering direct program and service, Girls Inc. informs policy makers about girls’ needs both locally and nationally. Girls Inc. educates the media about critical issues facing girls and teaches girls how to advocate for themselves and their communities using their own voices to promote positive change.
Changing Westchester
Girls Inc. of Westchester County began in 2006 with the goal of helping girls in our area find the strong, smart and bold inside of them. There are 80,000 girls ages 6-18 in Westchester County and there is a tremendous need for Girls Inc’s programs and empowering messages. Despite the perception of Westchester as affluent and privileged, 20% of households have annual incomes under $25,000 and girls in these circumstances are especially in need of the information and support Girls Inc. programs offer. Girls Inc. Westchester provides local girls with field tested, relevant programs that help them Build their potential, Avoid at risk circumstances, Confront and overcome challenges, and Experience a sense of accomplishment. Girls Inc. Westchester opens girls’ minds to their own potential and to the promise of a bright future.
